This includes dispensing medicine, keeping the patient’s records, assisting medical specialists and operating the medical equipment along with the routine duties. Other opportunities for qualified nurses include teaching, administration and research jobs.

B.Sc. (Nursing – Basic/Post Basic/Distance)
B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) - 4 years (post 10+2; PCB)
B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) - 2 years (10+2 (PCB), GNM and registration with State Nursing Council as registered nurse and midwife)
B.Sc. Nursing (Distance) - 3 years
B.Sc. (Post Basic) - B.Sc. (Distance) - 10+2 (PCB), GNM and 2 years work experience
10+2 (PCB) with 40% to 50% marks in each of the courses

Internship/Training
This experience can be gained at different hospitals, nursing homes, old age homes, rural and community health care centers. You can also work as a Volunteer in NGOs, government agencies etc. Whether the internship is paid or not will depend upon the place from where one is doing internship.
Scholarships
The Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI) awards SNA (Student Nurses' Association) scholarship to the students of ANM/GNM and Basic B.Sc.(Nursing) program.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation awards nursing (B.Sc.(Basic) or GNM course) scholarship for female students residing in self-settled leprosy colonies or one parent must have had leprosy.

NIMT Institute of Technology & Management, Uttar Pradesh offers Samaj Kalyan Vibhag Scholarship Scheme to the students of GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery) course.

Different institutions/colleges award merit based scholarships to deserving students. The scholarship criteria vary from one institute to another.

Like any other field the remuneration in this field also depends on qualification, experience and area in which one works. One could get an initial pay of 8,000 to 15,000 per month.
